Have You Ever Tried This Dance?

The reason because I have chosen this topic is because is one of my hobbies and I'd like to share with you all I know and the benefits of this dance.

The term derives from a French translation “danse du ventre”which was applied to the dance in the Victorian era and originally referred to the Algerian dancers whose dance used to include abdominal movements.

Most historians agree belly dancing orginated in the North of Africa around 4000 B.C.It was danced by women and for women as a ritual of fertility.

But,at the beginig of the 20th century was devalued and it was associated with prostitution.

Some years later, the cinema continued broadcasting as a sexual dance. It was shown as a spectacle for men where a woman performed a striptease.

Luckily, this concept was changed by two famous dancers: Sahia Gamal and Tahia Carioca, who showed it as the most beautiful dance. And they also introduced a new element, the veil.

One of the most important aspects of the dance is to be a way of expression. In spite of the fact that it's a non verbal communication, the dancers can express their emotions or feelings with the movements. Because the dance is like a mirror where the soul speaks through the body movements.

The main movements of this dance can be grouped into different categories:

Percussive movements: They are made by the hips, which can be used to punctuate the music or accent a beat.

Fluid movements: They are sinuous movements in which the body is in continuous motion, and which may be used to interpret the melodic lines and lyrical sections in the music or modulated to express  the musical complex improvissations in a rhytmic manner. These movements require a great deal of abdominal muscle control.

Shimmies, shivers and vibrations: Fast, small and continuous movemnts of the hips or the ribcage which create a texture and depth of movements. Shimmies are commonly layered over other movements.

The arms: are used to highlitgh the movements of the hips.

There are so many advantages of this dance, that i advice to try it. The best of all is the benefits are not only phisical but also mental.

Mental benfits:

It helps:

To improve your communication.
To express your emotions.
To encourage your creativity.
